What rights do I have as a worker in a company?


Unfortunately, in these times, companies are less and less respected by workers’ rights, but what rights do employees have in a company? To answer this question, this article will be very useful to you. In addition, it can serve to denounce some violation of the rights if you are worker, in the same way that an employer can avoid default them. For this, we tell you what rights you have as a worker in a company.


1. Workers have the right to an effective occupation, that is to say, to have a useful work and not to diminish their dignity. Another right of workers is respect for their privacy and duly considers their dignity. These results in the non-obligation and the possibility of denial by the worker to do certain tasks that may affect the dignity of the same.

2. Workers also have the right to promotion and vocational training at work, with the aim of encouraging their greater employability. All the workers allocate a part of their withholding corresponding to the Social Security to a training item that can be used through the subsidized courses offered by the State itself.

3. Another right is not to be directly or indirectly discriminated against on the grounds of sex, marital status, age, racial or ethnic origin, social status, religion or belief, political views, sexual orientation, trade union affiliation or language. In the face of any indication of such discrimination, it is advisable to report it quickly to prevent it from increasing.

4. There is also the right to physical integrity of the worker and the implementation of an appropriate health and safety policy. The company must meet standards of cleanliness and safety to be able to develop professional activity without problems.

5. Another basic right of workers is centered on the right to freedom of association, i.e. the possibility and ability to bargain collectively improvements for all workers in the company and even strike if appropriate. In addition, a worker should always have the right to information, consultation and participation in the company, which increases collective power.

6. Workers also have the right to receive promptly the agreed remuneration, that is, the corresponding salary on the agreed date. The repetitive violation of this right is demountable and the State itself has a public fund to cover part of the wage unpaid to the workers.

7. There are other rights that can be established in the contract and in the concrete agreement of each worker. These rights will also have to be respected in the same way as the general ones.
